Is there a possibility for you to try a 9-stable kernel as of today. Can
you also ask the guys to connect another USB device, like an empty
memory stick and see if that is detected. Thank you!

Check using usbdump -i usbusX -f Y -s 65536 -vvv
what is going on. Maybe some USB transfers are returning zero length data from
the chip.

in the porting of cheese3 we're facing the problem of how to detect
cameras. When pluggin the usb device devd passes the usb device (and so
we can see the usb device as a parameter of webcam) but we can't know
whiich /dev/video got finally created.
