Hello,
I've been using 4.X branch for production servers. Yesterday I bought
box in datacenter with RAID 1 controller and operators in DC set up FreeBSD
5.X for me (instead 4.X i asked) because they have troubles with set
up RAID controller runing on 4.X.
I have two options:

Hi all,
After some very late evenings trying to figure out why vinum failed
after an upgrade from 5.2.1 to 5.3 i scouted the following document:

This is the interesting part for this issue:

Hi all,
Forget the first post. My server is still somewhat unstable after the
upgrade attempts, and I appologize. Here goes the real deal:
I tried to upgrade my existing 5.2.1 to a 5.3. I ran into severe
problems with my vinum setup in trying to do so. I think i can answer
why, the reason is st

In my experience 5.3 is quite good for production and you should not be afraid
to use it instead of 4.X
I have been running a few 5.3 boxes in production for a while without problems
and im planning to replace
the rest of my servers with 5.3

I have been running apache, postfix, postgresql on a 5.3 mashine and the
only problems i have faced was with sshd and time outs and even then most of
the problem was with my named.conf. 5.3 seems to be doing great! much better
than the ones before it, and i am on a dual amd system. The only down ti

Announcement
The FreeBSD Release Engineering Team is pleased to announce the availability
of FreeBSD 4.11-RC1, which marks the beginning of the FreeBSD 4.11 Release
Cycle. This will be the last of the FreeBSD 4.X releases. It is meant
to give users a little more time to migrate to

The apache.org mail server has been happier since we updated to a point on
RELENG_5 after the recent fixes for if_em. We still need to apply the
patch floating around for mpt, as without it performance on a RAID 1 set
of disks is reported by bonnie at 1 MB/s, with the patch it's 50 MB/s.

I see that there is no scheduled release date for FreeBSD 5.4
(which is not a surprise; 5.3 was finalized so recently).
However, there seem to be glitches and performance issues
which I need to see resolved before I can move to 5.3.x (rather
than 4.10 or 4.11) for production servers.

Here is a panic on a 5-STABLE system.
I was testing out a system (Dell PII 400MHz) my father retired. I
thought heard some activity on the drive, so I ssh'd over to it then
exited right away (time to leave for a movie :)). It panicked shortly
afterward.
Although it is on a different bus and proba
