Hi all,
a few weeks ago our Highpoint Rocket Raid controller (hptrr) started
biting the dust (spurious channel resets). We bought a LSI 9201-16i
(mps) to replace it. Connected to the hptrr were 4 external e-sata
enclosures, configured in JBOD mode. Together with two disks connected
to the onboard

Wow, thanks a lot! :-)
Those tips have finally stopped "chopiness" with our fileserver as well

step I'll try is upgrading to RELENG_7 to see if that helps.

Hiho! :-)
Occasionally, especially when uploading a large number of files, the
(brand-new, tested) sata disks in my fileserver spit out some of these
errors:

Hiho! :-)
I'm planning to buy a Promise TX4302. The idea is to just plug in some
disks via esata and then put zfs on them.
Anybody got some experience with the TX4302? Googling didn't really
turn up much, so I guess the controller "just works"? :-)
Greetings,
Marc

Hiho! ;-)
I just upgraded my machine to:
FreeBSD blah.blah 7.0-BETA1 FreeBSD 7.0-BETA1 #6: Thu Oct 25 19:43:35
CEST 2007
and then tried using portupgrade, which promptly fails with:
Fatal error 'Cannot allocate red zone for initial thread' at line 382

Hiho! ;-)
I just bought a Western Digital MyBook 250GB external USB 2.0 drive and
I stumbled upon the problem mentioned in:
kern/107495: Fix long wait before WD My Book 250GB (USB) is recognized
There's a patch attached to that PR, which I applied, but it didn't
help.

Hiho! :-)
The gmirror man page says that if gmirror is used on a disk, the last
sector of that disk is overwritten with the metadata gmirror uses.
So what I would like to know is, how risky is it to mirror a disk which
already has data on it?
Is there a chance that I might render my system unbo

Hiho! :-)
I'm running:
FreeBSD greatsheep 5.3-STABLE FreeBSD 5.3-STABLE #17: Sat Nov 13

and since a few days, I've been getting these messages (only a few):

Can I simply ignore them or do they point to a real problem?

Hiho! :-)
What is the current status of ehci(4) in 5.3-stable, i.e. what are my
chances that if I buy it will just or
probably work?
Thanks in advance!
Bye
