ill also watch for vulnerabilities in the
base system. For example, the cvs issue from awhile back showed up in my
portaudit results. Thus, it's not strictly necessary to always keep your base
system source up to date as long as your system is stable and you're watching
the portaud

Regarding the query, yes, this is normal behavior for many laptops. Many are
designed (unfortunately) with heat-generating circuitry right above/below the
cardbus slots. If the card and laptop work correctly, for extended periods of
time, then you have nothing to worry about. Just have a pair of tongs
folks on the freebsd-current list.
They deal specifically with the 5.x branch. This list, freebsd-stable is
primarily concerned with 4.x.
(Although as 5.x is gearing up for STABLE, this might not hold true for very
long.)
