portupgrade -P does not 'su'?

Hello. I'd like to install a port with 'portinstall -P' from a non-root user and it requires an obvious dependency I already have built to be reused. But portinstall doesn't seem to brace it into the 'su root -c': $ portinstall -vpP devel/p5-Test-Class [..] ---> Installing 'p5-Module-
