hi,
i wonna spin down an ata drive which is used as backup drive so it
doesnt need to "run" all the time. i googled the bit and found a lot of
people having the same problem - but no solution :(
with scsi it is no problem (i read) but ata ? is there any stable
solution ?

system i get :
smbfs: server name "x.y" too long
the server name is 16 chars long and i found out (looking at the
sources) that there is a limit of 15.

i am running freebsd 5.1 release.
each time i want to use the logout menuitem of the gnome menu the gnome
panel hangs. i searched the web and found several infos about it but no
solution. any gnome2 user here having solved the probem ?

i use tdsl with my fbsd 5.1 release box. to establish the connection i
run:
$ ppp -auto tdsl
$ ppp -v /var/run/internet dial# i used "set server
/var/run/internet" in /etc/ppp/ppp.conf
so everything works fine but one thing is missing: on my linux box i

recently i set up a new freebsd current. i want to use xfce4 as
desktop/window manager but also evolution as mail client. i had a look
at the dependencies of evolution and found out that evolution depends on
the whole gnome2 desktop (!)
