i'm new to freebsd with some linux experience - hope i picked the right

got the card, pc card on laptop (supported in your laptop list!), to come up
at boot, ep0 = address ...
referred to the handbook and it covers 4.9 ... i got a 4.5 version with the
'unleashed' book so it's unclea

upgraded to version 4.9 since the last post.
installed the same way as 4.5 but actually got rid of all the conflicts in
kernel configuration, selected ep for network device, seems to come up fine,
beeps shows up in ifconfig with a mac address.

Apart from switching the ext2s to ufs, does someone has other

If you want to keep a HP, try a NX 7010 and see if that works better.
The "Pavillion"-series is really the low-en
ame, freebsd-isp is not about the isp(4)-driver ;-)

I think it should be sufficient to set hald_enable=FALSE in etc/rc.conf
to deactivate hald instead of chmod usr/local/etc/rc.d/hald.

i'm having trouble accessing my mail as 'user'.
pine seems to have created a mail folder in /home/user/mail (sent mail
goes there) yet fetchmail insists on dumping my stuff in /var/mail. when i
try to access /var/mail/user i get a 'invalid remote specification'? which
