Hello,
I was wondering if there's some sort of port available that can actively
ban IPs that try and bruteforce a service such as SSH or Telnet, by
scanning the /var/log/auth.log log for Regex such as "Illegal User" or
"LOGIN FAILURES", and then using IPFW to essentially deny (ban) that IP

Am I missing something? Did I forget to install a port to aid in the MAKE
process??
Thanks for the help in advance.
I get numerous errors while trying to, "portsdb -Uu", 'portversion -l "<",
and "portupgrade -arR". I don't get any kind of prompt to change anything.
How would I go about fixing these errors so that I can upgrade my ports to the latest
version(s)?? Here's a snippet from the PORTUPGRADE I did, bu
I'm planning on upgrading to a most recent version of FreeBSD (v4.7 to
v4.8). I plan on backing up data before doing so. Which configuration
files (or filesystem[s]) should I backup ?? /, /etc, /var, /usr ??? I'm
excluding "/usr/home" because that's standard anyways.

I have an existing FreeBSD v4.7 installation and want to delete a small
filesystem that I had designated for email (/var/mail), and want to freeup
that unused space to the '/usr/home' filesystem. If I use DISKLABEL to

Hi there,
I had a question... I was running DAYTIME (port 13) and POP3
(port 110 - Qpopper) services with no problems up until lastnight. For
some reason I think the SA-03:11 (sendmail) and SA-03:12 (SSH) patches I
installed have done something to those ports. If I do a 'netstat -an'

I recently uninstalled the Apache2 port to be able to use the Apache13-modssl port for
SSL pages.
However, I had a friend tell me that Apache13-modssl is alot less secure than Apache2.
Is there a modssl for Apache2 that I could use/install so it's more secure than
Apache13-modssl??

I was just curious if FreeBSD supports any of the UPS's that have the
automated powerdown feature in the event of powerloss (APM)?

Hi all,
As you're already aware, there've been known issues with ACPI running on
some laptops. For instance, mine is a Toshiba Satellite A105-S2051.
When I first installed FreeBSD v6.3 I would get the following error...
