First off thanks to all those who helped me out, I've finally gotten
everything up and running. In doing so however I've come across 3
different options for making PHP work w/ apache.
1) PHP as a CGI through Apache
2) PHP as a shared Apache Module ( --with-apxs=[

Any ideas or links to check out?

I've been doing a LOT of reading, and I can't seem to find anything
resembling a clear answer. The one truth I've found is this, there are
more 'stupid' Linux users than there are FreeBSD users. So I figured
I'd ask this to a FreeBSD mailing list, as opposed to a Linux one.

I'm updated my ports and my system to -STABLE. However when I try to

many years on MS I guess). Any how, I'm attempting to the Handbook (

executes just fine, but I can't get the mplayer to load. I try just
launching 'mplayer' but it replies 'mplayer: command not found'.
Any ideas?

How do I install Gaim from the ports for a KDE desktop?

The problem (which i didn't include, because I thought I was missing a special
tag to work on a KDE desktop) is now listed below. Any ideas on whats wrong?
My ports are up-to-date.
==
ox# cd /usr/ports/net/gaim
ox# ls
Makefiledistinfo
I've updated my ports. Here's my cvsupfile:
===
*default host=cvsup3.FreeBSD.org
*default base=/usr
*default prefix=/usr
*default release=cvs
*default tag=RELENG_4
*default delete use-rel-suffix

*default tag=.

As for
I've cvsuped to -STABLE.
So now following a tutorial in the FreeBSD Unleashed book I'ved simply entered
one command.
# make buildworld
After about 5 minutes it fails horribly.
cc -O -pipe -DIN_GCC -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -DPREFIX=\"/usr\"
-I/usr/obj/usr/src/gnu/usr.bin/cc/cc_int/../cc
So I installed the JDK13 and would like to start coding. However, java
and javac commands seem to do nothing. Do I have to make them alias's
to the programs (didn't actually check if they're installed) or
something else?
Ideas?

So we are at the same page, I'm following the directions found in the FBSD

I'm attempting to compress a file as I'm attempting to upload it. Oddly

Why does linking an application such as java/javac to the /usr/local/bin/
directory make the java and javac commands global? Whereas 'kmail' is not in
there, but if I type it Kmail will launch anyways.
