The zlib on /head is 1.2.7, merged from the vendor branch on 2012-06-21.

The Zlib baked into FreeBSD is Zlib 1.2.4 even on 9.1R.

It happened all the time and after update (if you update or not) there are so
many ports for updating. In case for very long waiting for version 9.1 will be

Have you checked the other version of netcat already available? A quick
check shows these four versions for Ubuntu:

You could try to use that source distribution as well.

They can be found in /usr/src/contrib/netcat/ once you have
extracted the source distribution of FreeBSD. Depending on

Ok thank you for your answer...
the "problem" is in the postgres code and not
in a compile switch or something like that...
I will upgrade all my 8.2 to 8.3... systems
to do this, I build an 8.3 from ground zero,
and than do a rsync from this one to the others,
directories: /usr/obj /usr/src

Hello...
I upgrade the server from version 8.2 to 8.3, and rebuild all packages..
it all works...
Then I installed a binary package (8.3) in an old 8.2 ...
every package works... gnome, nautilus, wget about 800 of them
the only one that does not work is postgesql84-server
when I try to run
There are two advantages that come to mind quickly.
With amd64 you could install more than 4 gigs of ram and have it
recognized. With i386 if you need to do this pae would need to be
installed, which FreeBSD doc pages say is if beta quality.
I bet that amd64 will get more dev attention.
