No, I boot into terminal mode and then log in and then issue startx.
What happens for me currently is that I start up x and they key repeat
rate

If so, put the following in /etc/rc.conf:
keyrate="fast"
And all should be well. Also note that you do not need to be root to
issue that command. I need to do this command a lot when I reboot a
machine on my
cally addresses keyboard repeat rate.
