My shell mysteriously changed. I don't know what port changed the shell
but how do I put it back to normal. I liked how when I was logged in or
su'ed to root I had a prompt with the computer name and a hash sign. Now
I have a percent sign and when I try to change the shell with chsh I can

I also tried

If you have another system to use temporally and a copy of Windows you
can download BartPE and create a Windows boot CD. You can then boot
from the CD and load the update either from a secondary CD drive or
HDD or something.

Is there a hidden file attribute in FreeBSD as there is in Windows?

I connect to my FreeBSD system from a PowerBook and was wondering (mostly
for fun) if I can run Gnome2 or KDE or something within a Terminal
connection on my PowerBook.
I can manage my FreeBSD system fine from a CLI but thought it would be fun
to run Gnome or KDE.

I added:

But I don¹t think it is working. I had rebooted my system the other day and
my mail server stopped working (postfix reading from mysql tables) and I
tried looking at my running processes:
ps ax |grep sql
and nothing was returned. So I
some XSP or some other type of web server. I think it
was written entirely in C# and was wondering if that is a better way to go
rather then Apache. I prefer Apache and would rather get it working rather
then switch to a whole new web server.

You will have to read up about several MTA¹s and figure out what suites your
needs. It will take a good few hours of reading and if you are anything like
me with a wife job and three kids then time is
names and passwords from a MySQL database. I would
rather not transfer the username and password in clear text.

Sorry one last question. Should I put all of my *_enable in /etc/rc.conf?

I have been having been having some issues with BIND that have been
driving me up the wall. I believe I may have located the problem. I
believe I had both BIND8 and BIND9 installed on the same system. So I am
reinstalling from the ports collection and overwriting BIND8 completely.

I am able to ping my loopback as well as my static IP address. but I am
not able to ping any other system on the net, my ISP's DNS server nor the
ISP's Default Gateway. I am able to ping my system by FQDN and just the
host name from the FreeBSD box.
Ping error for the DNS server p
y. This is leading me to think it is something on my ISP. Does
