I forgot to note that for option (c), there is an 'at present' workaround in
the absence of a new PYTHON option being created.

It appears talloc is *not* an optional dependency [1] which precludes option
(d) in comment 5:
Notmuch depends on four libraries: Xapian, GMime 3.0,
