before this ports freeze is over.

For reasons I do not understand, it seems that the mail system (on the
FreeBSD side?) decided to strip my text attachment. Let's see if a
gzipped attatachment works better.

I notice that this PR is still open. To ease things, the patch file is
attached. Simply drop it into the ports 'files' directory, and the patch
will be included.
