I am trying to configure an HP LaserJet m1212nf MFP and failing possibly
because the setup can't find files normal for Linux but different in FreeBSD.
I get error messages such as (running as root):

DOCS=on, EXAMPLES=off. I'd like to not change them. The PH just says
that those options are on by default.
How should I disable EXAMPLES option for the port (at it's Makefile)?

Wow. That's very clever. So there is some
procedure to track what files a port installs
under DOCSDIR? And the port maintainer doesn't need
to worry about it? Very nifty.

I have been sitting on an update for devel/doxygen, but have not submitted it
because I am unable to build the PDF docs for it. I have yet to get a reply from
