Thank you for the information. From my point of view, it's likely that
issues of building boost-python-libs are related to devel/pth and
libpthread-stubs-0.1. I'll try to examine that when I have time.

xfe doesn't depend on GNOME.
I tested removing this line from Makefile
and compiled/ran successfully without GNOME:
< USE_GNOME= gnomehack gnometarget
