Using the www/rt44 port I am wondering where to put overrides for the
html in /usr/local/share/rt44/html/ ?
On Linux I hear this is something like /opt/rt4/local/html/ but I
can't find where to put it for FreeBSD?
Does the port prepare a place where I can put overrides?

There have been a ton of bug fixes upstream for this and 1.21 has been in ports
without a maintainer it seems.
It builds fine otherwise like this:
pkg install automake autoconf pkgconf gettext gmake lib
