m not sure what causes the problem. Could it be some driver using memoery
that it should not or hardware writing where it should not or if this something
completely in the hardware.

So, I indeed suspect that there is a problem with vmx TSO.
As another data point, an older system from before vmx->iflib conversion does
not exhibit the problem.

But still it's a valid use of TCP, so maybe ipfw could support it better (e.g.,
by detecting "syn" after "both fin").
