For the archives the board was an Asus P5B-VM DO and had the 0505 BIOS. I
updated to the 1001 version.

Can we just "csup -i src/sys/dev/em/ supfile" on a 7-stable system or are
there other changes that
Try the driver in HEAD, it might even just build and work on 7, if
not let me know.
