Looks like a clear case of backend selection. I built firefox with all audio
backends disabled. That leaves only OSS. All all files I have played are now
playing audio.

This is the case with firefox-112.0_1,2 with the optional ALSA turned on, SNDIO
turned off.
If the ALSA settings are left at default and nothing is done, we will get sound
output.
