For quite some time I've had lang/gcc48 (not lang/gcc) installed, with
DEFAULT_VERSIONS=python=2.7 python2=2.7 gcc=4.8 bdb=5
GCC_DEFAULT_VERSION=4.8
in /etc/make.conf.
I decided to try lang/gcc49 instead. I deleted lang/gcc
