Once a release is done, the -RELEASE manual pages are not updated.
If you search for 'zfs' without specifying the release, you will see
that Example 15 is updated to reflect the corrected zfs snapshot
example. 9.1-RELEASE manual pages are displayed by default.

Is there any chance that the older documentation could be updated? Or
is it likely that the 9.0 manpages will see less and less use, and the
error will be noticeable to anyone trying to implement that type of
solution?
