the errors get mixed on the console as if
the process writing to the console wasn't locking the device.

the man page.

taller tries to create the filesystem. Somehow it
decides to look for device '/dev/X' and fails. After this I rebooted...
The motherboard is an Asus P2B-D and the disk is a Seagate IV 80GB IDE.
Motherboard BIOS revision is 1013.
I hope this helps those creating the ISO's.
