Try this then:
- update to the latest sources from svn
- erase everything under /usr/obj/
- start with an empty /etc/make.conf (although the one you posted seems fine to
me)

Works now with the work I did converting the testcase from prove to ATF:
% mdmfs -s 10m 0 /mnt/
% kyua test
