still fighting with the build process:
Is there any target or command to regenerate the makefiles in the
compiler source tree opr parts of it (tools/h2pas actually)?
When doing cd and executing fpcmake the paths are wrong
("cannot find unit system").

I rather think your tplex is broken. However, there is a pregenerated
.pas file in svn, so you only need to make sure it won't get regenerated.
