To know the precedent cells, you can use following:-
Suppose the range is G12:G13 for which you want to get precedent cells locked.
Range("G12:G13").Select
Selection.DirectPrecedents.Select
Selection.Lock

I am working on a large budget file with numerous sheets, which link up to a
