I found the problem, not the solution.
I compared the locale directory of my Vista installation with my Ubuntu
one and recognized that not all language files *.mo and image files
*.png are installed. Maybe there are other files I don't know from.

There should be a bunch of files in the folder
share\locale\de\LC_MESSAGES under your Evolution installation folder.
Files like evolution-2.26.mo and evolution-data-server-2.26.mo .

invitation the resulting reply mail is not delivered; it says in a
pop-up:

There must be some way to debug what Evo is doing or complaining about;
every good developer implements this; I don't see any hints, not even in
the FAQ; there is only something like "export GROUPWISE_DEBUG =1 in a
terminal and launch evolution", so I tried:
