I have Evolution 2.22.3.1 if a version update is available where can I
find it for linux and Windows clients.
Maybe that will fix the ldap browse and advanced search rule editor
issue (new category not showing in list).

For Linux, see your distribution's repositories. I don't know about
Windows. The current stable version of Evo is 2.24.2.

The expunge reaches 55% and then dies with a message:
"Mail file and summary are out of sync even after a sync." (From memory;

Now that I have found the latest version for Upgrading Evolution - is
there a written process? I already read the FAQ's and found no
instructions.
