No, cursor within the text doesnt work for me either.

Using 3.10.4, it does the same for me EXCEPT if I back the mouse up just
slightly until the pointer is within the selected text. Then I get the
menu you wanted. That seems logical to me as the mouse pointer is
outside of the selected text unless I back it up slightly.

In my case as I descried, if I select all of the text until line end it
works as expected, if only selecting part of the text, the selection
vanished as soon the right mouse button is pressed.
This happens in newer Evolution 3.12.9 too (via debian jessie)

If you want to suggest one could also use ctrl+c to copy or what not. the
issue is, "copy" is in the pop up menu, when the user selects something
with the mouse and then hits right mouse button to get to the copy from the
pop up menu, but the application instantly deselects the current selection,

Dear list, following usage scenario. Select some address in the To: Field
of the message composer. Right-Click and wanting to go to the popup menu
"copy" makes the current selection vanish instead.
Note when I hit left mouse button and pull down to select everything to the
end of the line, it work
