[Evolution] How to copy/cut from the body of an email

Using Evolution 3.2.3 under gnome on Linux. Is there any way of copying arbitrary text from the body of a received email. When I try to use the normal X mechanism of left-click and drag the mouse, as soon as I left-click it immediately selects lots of text (often from the start of the current or p
