I am on Evolution 2.32.2, Ubuntu - POP mail box, everything stored on
my local machine. I have more than 100K mails of the last 8 years
stored and need to extract attachments (need not necessarily remove)
from the mails.

with the release of 3.0.3 evo does not crash anymore, thanks for that.
However, there are still problems with POP3 servers. Often fetching mail
hangs and cancelling only continue the hang. Additionally, when deleting
mails with jpeg attachments, the download still continues and hangs,
