Hi!
While sending mails with attachments, Evolution makes the names of the
attachments unreadible if they have non-unicode characters, such as ü, ö, ğ,
ş, ı... While sending and recieving the message body is OK and when a
non-unicode named attachment is received, again no problem.
I'm using Evolu
I too experienced the same occurrence of missing messages.
The server is m$ outlook and I used the outlook web mail service to
read the messages missing in evolution.
Needless to say, I now use another mail client (claws; impressed so
far) and demoting evolution to a task manager.
Yours

Yes. Could it possibly be the exchange backend that is causing the
problem?

Yep. Right-click folder. Select Properties. Check the block "Keep
replies in this folder"

I like the way kmail give me the choice of keeping replies in the folder
of the original message. This makes great sense when using threaded
message view.
I can't find a way to set this in Evolution, but wonder if there is a

Thank you for the tip Pete, but I figured it out why Evolution behaved like
that. It was a wrong parameter set regarding the authorization of server.
Now it's OK.
But I have a bigger problem now: Evolution makes the names of attachments
unreadible when the names have non-unicode characters. But I
