inordinate amounts of copper are sent to landfills. Probably most Romex and heavier gauge copper are recycled, but all the Cat5, lamp cords, and other small stuff with PVC casing get tossed. Collectively, I suspect that's a large amount of copper. Hard to extract the copper from the casings.
