At europython they had "Mentor" badges and made it publicly known that
peope with those badges are at all times willing to answer every
single question for newcomers.
If it's not too late that could be printed with the rest on the attendee badges?

But yeah, buttons will do as well. Though I tend to not see them. It
should be easily visible especially if you're not already talking to
the person.

Yes indeed, I also found out that you can repeatedly apply if you make
a new design and you only need 6 votes to get in which should be a no
brainer for GNOME.
