I forgot to mention:
last version that worked for me is:
2bdc661fde75ed226b19c802ecd31ce12d2ec7e1
from aad7dd24864f3ce988a67061a391d85e649aa375 on it doesn't work

the odt exporter code is broken; when exporting a file with C-c C-e o o,
the footnote markers are in the odt file, but the footnote text is
missing; all the footnotes are empty!
