And then switching to column view, the default priority is shown as "^G".
It works as expected for character values.

There are lots of different ways you can do it. I use yasnippets (for more
than just org) and I have a header template that I use so I just type
"hd_" and get a pre-made header with some settings for code snippets
that I write a lot:
