to get hyperlinks etc from latex into pdf, the best option is to
use package hyperref

Lately, I've been creating a lot of tables from text from text files
containing a mix of English text and columnar data (the stuff I'm
importing). This is pretty easy to do in org-mode: save the columnar
data to a temporary file and then run M-x org-table-import. But it
would be even easier

I have Xemacs and am on a Windows XP computer.
I am not sure what directories to put in the makefile,
since I don't know which ones refer to the location of
the org files an which refer to the location of the
