I'm off to Orlando in a few weeks time and will probably be taking my K2

concerned about getting a big enough bag for it to go in. Hence, I was
wondering what the lik
Following some reports of bad audio (confirmed by self listening), I
have been looking at my SSB adaptor in my K2.
So far I have reached the following conclusions
a) Its not RF leakage - running with a Dummy Load still creates it
b) If I monitor the RF output with my 100MHz scope, in CW the

Just a thought.

Bob,
Thanks for the advice but I don't have RFC15 installed. Mine is an A
series K2 and when I did the A to B mods a few years ago, the "do you
need RFC15" test proved negative so I didn't install it.
I could, of course, try installing it now - provided I can find it!

Thanks for all the advice received so far from everyone on the list.
A couple of clarifications
a) I do not believe I have an A-C field problem. I will double check
everything but I didn't have anything within close range.
b) I don't also believe I have an RF induced problem since I am usi
worrying about nothing in particular? It was
this behaviour that made me look at pin 6 of U2 on the SSB board since
this also seems to jump around once it has slowly reached its final value.

One alternative which has been used very successfully in the past to
lift antenna wires is the Allsop Helikite - see http://www.allsopp.co.uk/
Its a combined helium balloon and kite which combines the best of both
worlds ie balloon for no wind and a kite if it is windy.

bag of desiccant would last 15 years.
The good news is that a large bag of silica gell is not that expensive. Just
don't split the bag and then get it wet....

I was using my KPA100/KAT100 combination today to check out some changes to my
OCFD antenna. Previously I have had problems with the balun heating up and the
SWR increasing over an extended transmit on 7MHz (eg 50w on an FT8 over). I
have made an improvement to my OCFD antenna by adding anoth
the same power.

10+ years ago, we built a HF loop inside a coat. I can’t really tell you the
application but the loop was made of copper braid and put between the liner and
the outer shell of the coat. It was tuned with a simple L match with a LED to
indicate peak power. We operated it on the 80, 60 and 40m

I’m trying to set up a borrowed K3S plus P3 for a club contest using a laptop.
The problem I have is I don’t have the CBLP3Y cable to connect the K3S to the
P3, I only have the E980297 cable that connected a K3 to a P3 (the single ended
RJ45 to 9 way D).
Question - if I connect up the K3S an
ity, then try N1MM.

Having been playing around with the P3 for the first time, can I suggest a
future feature please. Whilst the built in display is very nice, it would be
helpful if it were possible to get the spectrum data in a PC in realtime (ish).
There are a couple of applications for this but the main one is
3 rather than at the K3 display most of the time

I’m trying to set up a K3S with N1MM+ and am having problems with the TX audio.
I have connected the K3S via USB to my windows PC and with Audacity have
proved that I can receive audio over the USB connection using the built-in
soundcard in the K3S. However, I cannot make it go in the other di

Changing MAIN:MIC to Line first, increasing the gain so that the audio was
working and then going back to MAIN:MIC to RP (with MAIN:MIC+LIN ON) worked.

I have been using a K3S in a 2m SSB VHF contest this evening and find that the
DSP NR is a bit a disappointment compared with my usual K2 rig. My QTH has a
fair degree on man-made noise so on the K2, I normally run with the NR at level
4 (factory settings - I haven’t adjusted them). However, w
If I remember correctly, when an ATU tune up is requested from the front panel
of a K3 equipped with a KAT3, once the tune up is completed, the final SWR is
flashed to the screen? The reason I ask is that my K3 seems to have stopped
doing this - even with a dummy load connected.

Thanks a lot. Your point out the TX power control made me think. So I redid
the TX Gain Calibration and now all is well!
I suspect I might have set the power to either 5w or 50w and hit the XMIT
button..

I’ve just added a new K3EXREF to my K3 but it’s not working. When I select
CONFIG->REF CAL, I don’t see the * indicating lock. Also, I can change the cal

I have confirmed that a suitable 10MHz clock is appearing on Pin 8 of the

Ah - just found the problem. I missed the addendum which says I need to enable

There is another way. Purchase a lead designed to extract video and audio from
a 5Gen iPod. It has a 4 pole 3.5mm jack at one end and 3 phono sockets on the
other. Connect the "video" (Yellow) phono to the line out via a blocking
capacitor and a resistor divider. Alternatively connect a smal
