In Canada it's not unusual to see rural distribution lines
that have only one conductor on the poles. They use
"earth" for the other half of the circuit, as in old US rural
phone lines.

They use DSP, a programmable 5-band equalizer, auto
adjust levels, etc. They "remember" a number of days of
levels in the event an adjustment is needed. Really neat
technology

Mine are ... for all practical purposes ... silent.
The only way I can tell they're operating is to
reach behind and feel moving air.

Julian,
I have a Heil TB-1 for my Goldline. I -think- it
meets your needs if I read you correctly.
The K3 is configured for Kenwood mics, so a
Heil "Kenwood" cable should do the trick.

I'm reviewing my soon-to-be-shipped K3 order and want to be
sure I understand the KUSB line item correctly.
Is the KUSB a USB cable to go from the K3 to my computer's
USB port or is it an internal module for which I will need to supply
cable for the K3 to computer conection?

There is/was one in central Puerto Rico ... flew over it on
way to DX-pedition on Desecheo Island (KP5) a few years ago.
