heard anyone else. No signals on 20m CW. I checked the usual
parameters -- X-Ray flux was low, SFI at 87m A=2, K=1 ... not sure what
is happening. Line noise was the normal S2, and visual check on the

Hmmm ... I've never used XIT except to test it. When working DX split,
I usually use both the VFO's in SPLIT mode. It takes me several moments
to get it right, but it usually takes me quite awhile to break a pileup
and once I have it set, the operation of the radio seems more natural to
me.
I'm setting up my K2/100 for RTTY, using a RigBlaster and MixW. I
recently had an unrelated KPA100 problem, and Gary fixed it for me, and
also totally aligned the radio [thanks Gary, that service was totally
worth it, my K2 is way better than I thought, and I was pretty impressed
before!]. I
OK, I really do have RTTY filters on my K2! Gotta dig down in the menus
a bit, but there they are. This will be a whole new RTTY Roundup for me.

Well out of my range, especially when my K2 RX (sort of all that really
counts in an xcvr as long as the TX produces the correct signal) beats
anything I have ever used or tried out. It may be good, but I think it

My only complaint with my KX1 in the Spartan Sprint (if I could ever get
parts of the rest of my life to be still for 2 hrs, I'd get into
another one) is that it is a 1.5 hour contest for me. In the last 30
mins, nearly everyone is on 80m, and I'm still on 40 working the few who

One Ham's Experience: Good News: The LiPoly I got (local RC hobby
shop) was just great! I did not deplete it on our cruise thru the
Panama Canal, maybe 6 hours operating time (mostly listening and no
CQ's), but I did rag chew a bit with a number of SA stns. Ran a Spartan
Sprint after return
As the CQWW rolled to a halt (OK, suddenly crashed at Z), the band
became very quiet, as in no signals between 14000 and 14070. Never
heard a peep from anyone on 14050. Checked tower ... still vertical ...
checked SWR -- normal, checked rotator and it was at 350. SFI was in
the 80's, A=2
I find the KXPD1 to be just fine. For a lot of rag chewing, I prefer my
Benchers, but that really isn't what goes on (for me at least) with the
KX1. I tend to make QRP QSO's, maybe 3 or 4 exchanges, or do some QRP
contesting like the Spartan or FOBB. The KXPD1 doesn't offer much
tactile feed
FWIW: As a senior in HS in '56-'57, I got a job as a relief operator at
a coastal marine station. Everyone had their own bug with a wedge to
connect it to the company-provided straight key, and all but mine were
Vibroplex. I had acquired a very proletarian looking black-based bug

Thanks for the inputs ... problem solved, and it turned out to be a
classic lesson in "correlation does not imply cause." I had assumed
that the only thing that happened was that I turned off the supply while
the battery was still floating on the output. When we returned home,

A little off topic but this is the battery I power my K2 and KX1 from so...
Without intending to, I allowed the 12V sealed gel cell 12 Ah battery to
dischage to about 6.2V when I finally discovered it after coming home
from a trip. It was slowly being discharged, not open circuited.

Thanks to all for both the posted and direct responses. I have the open
circuit terminal voltage up to 12.8V right now, and it drops to 12.1
when I power the K2 with it. It is a PowerSonic 12Ah battery, but I
will have to do some checking to see if its capacity is still up there.
