I had teh same issue, but turns out that the following two packages were
not installed:
unity-gtk-module-common unity-gtk3-module
The following fixed it for me:
sudo apt-get install unity-gtk-module-common unity-gtk3-module

Until there's a fix for the Logitech mice specifically, the best option

The JAyatana 2.x is relesed for Saucy with PPA ppa:danjaredg/jayatana,
for install check comment #9, new version works with OpenJDK 6/7 and
Oracle Java 6/7, and it doesn't need any plugin for Java Swing
Applications or JVM.

Unfortunately, after the crash occurs and the 'something went wrong'
screen appears I cannot enter the VT. ctrl-alt-F3 makes the screen go
