since the last Ubuntu kernel update, the overlay hints has been working

@ Bruno,
Thanks for the link to that other bug report. Spot on with what I was
dealing with. Hopefully they'll have all this sorted out when 14.04
drops?

@ Bruno,
A friend of mine also uses Ubuntu 13.10 and he brought to my attention
that he's also experiencing this same issue as you. He couldn't figure
out why my machine was able to see shortcut hints overlay but his

Today's Ubuntu kernel (3.11.0-15-generic) update fixed this problem. The
shortcut hints overlay is now working again on my machine.

I also experience this same behavior as well. I upgraded from 13.04 to
13.10. The shortcut hints overlay did work fine in 13.04, but it no
longer displays the shortcut hints in 13.10. I do get the numbers on the
dash for each application when holding down the Super key in 13.10, but

I tried your patch and it works fine here. I used Suspend via menu and
closed the laptop lid. Both methods did not open HUD upon wake. Great
job! Thanks for the fix.

Mat
Just upgraded to 13.10 today and noticed this bug still persists. I've
tried suspending using the menu as well as closing the lid, and both
methods suffer from the HUD being initialized upon wake. My machine is a

This means you can't use Brasero, Dejadup and Nautilus without having
libunity installed?
Yuck!
Good system architecture should be highly cohesive, loosely coupled.
This is tightly coupled. :(
Not everyone like Unity, and not everyone wants Unity installed.

You claim that I can uninstall Unity, but when I attempt to do so, it
also removes ubuntu-desktop.
How am I supposed to uninstall Unity?
Isn't it possible to make the ubuntu-desktop package recommend instead of
depend on Unity?
I don't want this Unity on my system.
