My default desktop was set to "Unity"(at the login screen). I changed it
to "Ubuntu" and logged in. Now user switching works.

I can confirm that systemd logind is in control of the power button on
my ASUS UX305 laptop as of Kubuntu 15.04. This means that no matter what
the settings in KDE system-settings the power button is handled by
logind.

I'm still seeing this issue with a current Ubuntu 12.04.3 (unity
5.20.0-0ubuntu2 and compiz 1:0.9.7.12-0ubuntu3).
Some additional information that I didn't see provided earlier:
- After locking screen, in addition to seeing the Unity launcher bar, I
can also still see any windows I've set as "Al

i915 Gallium driver on an Atom N270.
-Opening the dash, shut down window, etc. is much faster.
-The overall performance of this driver is much slower. Even fade
effects on context menus cause stuttering. This is not improved by
setting MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=1.4.
-Some visual effects don't see
TekWiz, he is saying that the fix is in a mesa build that has not been
released yet. The nux patch only partially addresses this bug. Thanks
