This bug occurs for me when I disabled and re-enabled window spread in Unity
Tweak Tool. I could solve the problem in a strange way:

To reproduce the bug:
1. open multiple windows;
2. open Window Spread/Scale (Super+W);
3. search for a window and select it;
4. now switch to another window without using Window Spread again;
5. try to maximize/unmaximize window.
You will see the maximized window is expanded
Steps to solve easily (tested in Ubuntu 14.04)
1- run gedit without root
2- click open file menu and press Ctrl+H
3- open file ~/.config/autostart/cairo-dock.desktop
3- add this
X-GNOME-Autostart-Delay=20
4- save and close
5- reboot your unity/gnome

Yes. But the workaround is very simple. You just need to replace the
“group-apps” SVG with the “lens-nav-app”. For example, on 13.04 Raring
you can enter the command:
sudo cp /usr/share/unity/6/lens-nav-app.svg /usr/share/icons/unity-icon-

I’m experiencing high CPU load when switching to Firefox window (no difference
by whether Alt-Tab or mouse) only when I use HUD, and the only solution is to
end process of hud-service through System Monitor.
No problem afterward, or when I haven’t used HUD before.
