Time zone does not match UTC. And that after a restart and also after a
reset the City I used yesterday to adjust the mismatching times shows um
again.

Yeah, I can confirm a past event is removed from the indicator, so no
need for a 'Past', only a 'Now'.

I assumed past events would be removed from the indicator (it's not late
enough in the day for me to have seen that yet).
What use is showing previous old events in the upcoming events section
of the indicator? It can't imagine how that would ever be useful.

Public bug reported:
When it is just past the start time of an event, the indicator lists
that event as 'x minutes ago'. At an initial glance, this doesn't look
much different from an event scheduled in the future, and takes me a
couple of seconds to register that the event is in-progress.

Just for completeness, does the bug persist if you change your system
language to something else, e.g. US English?

@Roascio, it seems to be a slightly different issue.Your saying the events are

issue in this report is that the date in the indicator is incorrect (similar to

Public bug reported:
Starting from 16.10, Ubuntu MATE developers switched the whole MATE
Desktop Environment to GTK+3. As a consequence, mate-indicator-applet
now uses indicator-application instead of legacy indicator-application-
gtk2. But indicator-application uses .desktop file instead of D-Bus
The problem remains after reboot.
It affects only the date/time menu in the notification area: all my

correct time
All other times (clock, greeter, clock in top bar) are correct
