The dconf key for this is "high-volume-level", it defaults to 0.75 and
can be overridden in the device tarball so each OEM can adjust this
value to specific devices.
Details are in the first branch attached to this bug:

In the meantime while this is not officially fixed, I have uploaded a fixed
version of the package to a PPA.
The PPA is here:

to load all of Eclipse.
The steps to reproduce this using Eclipse are now more complicated since

In extremis, if we can't adjust the driver sucessfully, what value
should be modified to move the level at which the warning UI appears? I
would like to confirm that if I get the warnings to appear at the 50%

I believe the next/previous buttons should be greyed out or visually
disabled somehow when CanGoNext/CanGoPrevious are true. This will be a
lot better than displaying the buttons that look fully functional even
when they're not.

@Xavi, not allowing to do next/previous when nothing is playing seems
logical to me? but yeah, seems like one for design...

I've been looking at this issue and I've found that Rhythmbox returns false for
both properties: CanGoNext and CanGoPrevious when the player is not playing
anything, after pressing play it returns true to both properties and next and
previous buttons do what we expect.

Public bug reported:
unity 7.2.5+14.04.20150603-0ubuntu1, Ubuntu 14.04
1. Switch to a console, for example by typing Ctrl Alt F1.
2. Enter "unity --reset" (without quotes).
What happens:
A. "WARNING: no DISPLAY variable set, setting it to :0"
B. "ERROR: the reset option is now deprecated"
C. No
FWIW, the workaround for restarting Unity is just to enter "unity"
without the "--reset" option. I reported bug 1486498 that the current
message is unhelpful.
