Then I hit alt+control+L to lock.
Sure enough, I got what looks like gnome-screensaver.

I am using LDAP via PBIS fwiw.
At home, I have a dual monitor setup (as opposed to tri-monitor at work)
and I do not use LDAP and do not have this issue.
