on a computer would popup a dialog box asking the user what to do, along

More investigation - significant improvement after rediscovering the

I have recently rebooted after the latest software update and suddenly
my laptop is running slower than slow.
'Top 'shows compliz is taking between 20% to more often 130% or more of
the CPU (dual CPU). My system was running really well now it is very
very slow.

Having this same problem on Ubuntu 14.04 running inside VirtualBox. Somehow the
Unity bars are not shown. I tried compiz --replace and i get "compiz (core) -
Error: Plugin 'composite' not loaded."
Then I tried "$ sudo unity --reset
ERROR: the reset option is now deprecated"

brought the icon back and shortly afterwards another that removed it
again. Nothing I have tried in the way of use brings it back. In case
