I can confirm this in saucy. At least with Firefox windows, the behavior
is kind of predictable for three windows: the last focused window will
appear "closer" to the Launcher. But for more than three is unintuitive,
not to say random.

understand how to leave this mode once you are in it without closing all

Yeah, .xsession-errors is not very helpful - only looks like the upstart
jobs are being killed. Could you attach /var/log/lightdm and
~/.cache/upstart logs too as Stephen suggested?

This has started to happen recently; If I open an application A in
workspace 1, then switch to workspace 2, then click the app icon in the
launcher, it doesn't take me to its workspace (1) anymore, so I have to

other scenarios that cause a leak too):
1) Open a terminal and watch the RSS size of the unity-panel-service process:

3) Launch gedit. Observe
Sounds like X may be failing. After failure, could you switch to a VT
and copy the latest ~/.xsession-errors and then attach it to this bug.
Hopefully, that will a clue.

I just tested this, I don't believe IBus is the culprit here. Killing
IBus with another keyboard layout selected (I used Arabic) did not fix
the hotkey problem. My guess is that this is in g-s-d, but I'm still

Yeap, just figured out.
This daemon is strong enough to resurrected himself :P
So comment #11 IS NOT A WORKAROUND. (I will hide it, so people not get
confused). You have to kill ibus-daemon every time you change the
layout.

This is still a symptom for me on 12.04. Two monitors, right monitor has
a terminal on it, workspace 1. If I switch to any other workspace, while
focusing an application on the left monitor, the terminal follows to the
next workspace, staying on the right monitor.

The issue here seems to be that unpinning an app pushes a zeitgeist
event with application scheme and full path to the desktop file. If a
desktop file is present in the standard XDG directories, the full path
should be omitted and only desktop id (as per fdo menu spec) should be
