Something's wrong with this tarball -- configure.ac references man/Makefile,
but no man/ directory is included.
Lesson: always run 'make distcheck' before releasing :)

Looks like this commit might break building if you don't build against git
directly, since it's not included in the tarball.
The fix for this is removing man/M
